From Bendigo Shafter:

There can be no living together without understanding, and understanding means compromise. Compromise is not a dirty word, it is the cornerstone of civilization, just as politics is the art of making civilization work. Men do not and cannot and hopefully will never think alike, hence each must yield a little in order to avoid war, to avoid bickering. Men and women meet together and adjust their differences; this is compromise. He who stands unyielding and immovable upon a principle is often a fool, and often bigoted, and usually left standing alone with his principle while other men adjust their differences and go on.

Another:

Everyone hopes for an immediate solution, but the only solutions to social problems come through time. We in America always believe we have only to pass a law and everything will be changed, but the truth is nothing is changed. There is only one more law upon the books to be ignored or broken. People only obey a law the majority have already decided to obey, and it must be a very large majority.

Simply genius…

So a recent poll found that liberals read about one more book a year than conservatives – or as the press spun it: liberals/moderates read more books than conservatives (hat tip: Newsbusters). Well, you can all read the link to discuss the bias in the poll, though more amusing is the media’s reaction to it.

However, I think this just goes to show that one can read a lot and still hold on to certain ideas that are just plain silly. This is especially true if one reads books that only support one’s own world view.

Anyway, in honor of this poll, and to procrastinate work, I thought I would educate the 2 people who might actually read this as to the…

Top 10 Books about Liberalism to be published in 2008 according to anonymous sources):

10. Democrats Guide to Foreign Policy: Why Testicular Fortitude is overrated
9. Surrender: Why we should adopt French military strategy in Iraq
8. How to love oneself even if the rest of America hates you more than they hated the Moron in the White House, by John Kerry
7. I’m a fatass and its all George W. Bush’s fault, by Michael Moore
6. The Surge in Iraq: How success in War really means we’ve already lost, by Harry Reid
5. Taxes: How a bloated bureaucracy knows better than you how to spend your money
4. Adapting to Socialized Health Care: Learning to Trust Politicians with your Life
3. Climate Modeling For Dummies in 30 Days: Now you can make predictions about Global Warming Just like the Real Scientists! by Al Gore
2. A feminists guide to Peeing while Standing Up, by Hillary Clinton

And the number one book about liberalism to be written in 2008 is… (click “Read More”)
1. Using the Media Effectively to Defeat Political and Military Opponents, co-written by Dan Rather and Osama Bin Laden
